San Diego Sensations at the Oceanside Museum of Art (OMA)

The twenty-year-old OMA is a regional cultural gem that is deeply entrenched and connected to the community it serves. In addition to offering a world-class rotating collection of modern art, OMA runs classes, concerts, culinary events, films, lectures, parties and tours as well as being a popular rental venue. There’s also a carefully curated store onsite. Current exhibitions on display showcase a diverse group of artists working in a startling variety of mediums:

• Robin Bright/ Tom Driscoll—A Dual Retrospective

Tom’s thought provoking contemporary sculpture in a variety of mediums from stone to recycled plastic to resin beckons the observer to interpret the work via their own experience while Robin’s mixed media and tinted hydrocal prints are more delicate and ephemeral in nature.

• Laddie John Dill—Light Sentences and Light Traps

Laddie’s astonishing hand blown glass tubing, argon, mercury and sand installation is a spectacular display of color and light while his welded and polished aircraft aluminum series embodies startling linear compositions that treat metal in an unexpected way.

• Marjorie Nodelman—San Diego Artist

Marjorie was a popular eighties socialite/artist known for her vibrant acrylic paintings about transportation drama, encounters with the Headlight Child, produce and California scenery themes.

• Bill Rastetter—Street Art Reinterpreted

Bill was inspired by street art of South America to create a series of c-type chromogenic prints mounted on black acrylic. The series showcases layered thought-provoking imagery based on urban graffiti.

• Deanne Sabeck—Luminous

Deanne creates glass, metal and light sculptures that cast a stunning myriad of prism reflections on the walls. She is best known for her “Skyscapes” public art installation at the San Diego International Airport.
