Holiday Away: Calm the Commotion with the Ocean

Sometimes when families gather together for the holidays it can be a stressful time for all involved.  This year, why not use up your remaining vacation days and consider Oceanside for a beach holiday getaway for a fun and festive family reunion, and the leave the planning to us.

Our family friendly destination was rated by USA Today as having one of the most ideal climates.  Our high temperature averages are in the 60s in November and December with 0% chance of snow and 100% chance of sand.  Our November and December sunsets are as spectacular as any of the best holiday light displays. FAMILY LODGING

Having accommodations with space for friends and family to convene is key when planning a multigenerational vacation.  Look for resorts offering pools, hot tubs, BBQ and picnic areas, game rooms or kid’s activity centers.  Another important amenity for some extended stays may be fully equipped kitchens so family meals can be prepared and enjoyed together.  Oceanside’s Harbor Village and Downtown are vibrant shopping and dining areas.  Choosing a hotel within walking distance of either will make exploring easier and convenient.

KEEPING THE FAITH

MSLR-Christmas

For many families, it’s important to stay connected with their spiritual side during the holidays.  Oceanside is an inclusive community with regional options for all faiths and beliefs.  Our Religious and Faith-Based Travel Itinerary will give you some ideas on places to explore.  The itinerary also includes a list of Oceanside and regional churches, temples and spiritual centers. MEAL FOR THE MASSES

Oceanside is gaining a reputation for creative farm-to-table cuisine. Our chefs work closely with farmers to locally source ingredients and create menus around what’s available. This synergy has created a collaboration amongst many of our restauranteurs.  Most of our restaurants will happily accommodate your group with a little notice, but do contact them in advance.

Check out Oceanside’s Dining Scene

If you’re planning your reunion around Thanksgiving, leave the cooking to the professionals as several Oceanside restaurants are open on Thanksgiving Day. Hunter Steakhouse offers a turkey dinner with all of the fixings while 333 Pacific offers a less traditional three-course menu and has private group dining rooms for a cozy group gathering.

If the thought of getting your entire group to a restaurant for a sit-down meal causes your blood pressure to rise, then how about having it catered?  Anything But Ordinary Catering can custom create a menu that is sure to please your crowd, however, if your holiday wouldn’t be the same without traditional Italian cooking, then contact Rosina’s Italian for home-style authentic cuisine that will even have your Noni proclaiming “squisito!”  Be sure to check with your hotel or vacation rental on their rules about bringing in a caterer.

Hornblower offers a Thanksgiving Dinner Cruise. Click for details.

Star Wars-Themed Land Coming to Disneyland

In August of this year at the Disney’s D23 Expo, Disney company’s CEO Bob Iger announced that Star Wars will have its own themed lands in Disney parks. Two of their parks will have Star Wars lands namely, Disneyland in Anaheim, California and Disney World in Orlando, Florida. Disney will create a jaw dropping Star Wars sensation with these themed lands at a whopping 14 acres each — the largest one theme expansion ever in Disney’s history.

Iger excitedly explained that these lands will give its guests an almost real Star Wars adventure, transporting them to the new Star Wars planet which includes viewing the supreme battle between the First Order and the Resistance. Another flagship experience will be allowing the guests to control the Millennium Falcon in a ‘personalized secret mission’.

Read more about the planned Star Wars Exhibit here!

The Star Wars lands, which can also be referred to as Star Worlds, will be inhabited by aliens, humanoids and droids keeping inline with the Star Wars mythology. There will be instances for fans to encounter creatures from the Star Wars saga, as well as The Force Awakens characters.

To see more California attractions click here!

Disney has also mentioned new additions to the main park in connection with the Star World inclusion. There will be Star Tours – The Adventure Continues, which adds more encounters for fans. The Star Wars Launch Bay will bring interactive experiences for visitors as they get behind-the-scene peeks, visits with the characters, special exhibits, and souvenir items.   The Jedi Training Academy will now also include components from Star Wars Rebels. Special entertainment awaits visitors in Tomorrowland, with the addition of a few modifications such as themed food spots, the renaming of Space Mountain to Hyperspace Mountain, and more.

Now that Star Wars is among Disneyland’s latest attractions, the official tagline will probably change from the Happiest Place on Earth to the Happiest Place in the Galaxy. Guests will take their new Star Wars adventure when it kicks off on November 16th at Disneyland, California. Fans can pose with their favorite characters and get glimpses of the upcoming movie Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

The 2015 VISSLA ISA WJSC is scheduled for October 11-18 at the Oceanside Pier, California, USA.  If you’re a fan of surfing, this is an event that you won’t want to miss.

October 25 – Dia de los Muertos

The Old Mission San Luis Rey presents the Annual Dia de los Muertos celebration on Sunday, October 25, 2015 from 10am – 5pm. This is the seventh year that the “King of the Missions” will host and present this sacred Mexican celebration and the 15th year it has been hosted in Oceanside. Dia de los Muertos has been celebrated for thousands of years by Mexican and Indigenous people to honor and remember relatives and loved ones who have passed away through the four elements of earth, wind, fire and water. Over twenty-five-thousand attendees will enjoy the largest festival of its kind in San Diego County.

October 28 – Haunted Market

The weekly Sunset Market will be transformed into Oceanside’s Haunted Market. Visitors to the Haunted Market will still be able to enjoy their favorite international food vendors, unique shopping and fresh farmers market finds, but with spooky additions sprinkled through out the evening. To keep everyone in the Halloween spirit, Halloween Music will be playing all evening. There will also be a costume parade and evil laugh contest.

October 30 – Art After Dark

The Oceanside Museum of Art will be hosting the next Art After Dark event on October 30, 2015 from 7pm-10pm. Jumping off of the themes in the Baby Tattoo exhibit, this event is a mash-‐up of everything artistic, entertaining and avant-‐grade and a Halloween event not to be missed.
