9 Events for Kids December 2015

The kids are going to love the month of December in Oceanside, there is so much to do! From story time, to trains, to theatre, to art, and so much more the kids will have tons to choose from.

Let’s get started with what on the agenda:

Thursday, December 3rd:

Toddler Story Time

Are your toddlers getting restless, but excited during the holidays? Bring them to the Civic Center Library on December Thursday mornings at 10:30 a.m. for stories, music, crafts and other activities.  Toddlers learn language, listening, sharing, imagination and motor skills through one-on-one adult/child interaction.  For ages 2-3, with an adult.

Saturday, December 5th: 

Trains for Kids

The North County Model Railroad Society (NCMRS) has just moved to its new home in Oceanside’s Heritage Park. Families are invited to the North County Model Railroad Museum every Saturday from 10am-3pm for the “Trains for Kids” program; welcoming children to run and the operate model trains.

Other event dates this month include December 12th, 19th and 26th.

Tuesday, December 8th:

Preschool Story Time

Join us for a fun filled thirty minutes at designed to inspire your child as they explore the wonderful world of books and develop early literacy, motor and social skills, 10:30am every Tuesday at the Civic Center Library. Children will delight in listening to stories, singing songs, and participating in finger plays. A creative craft or free play completes the storytimes. For preschool children, ages 3 – 6.

Friday December 11th:

ANNIE, JR.

The Star Theatre Productions presents ANNIE, JR from December 11-December 19.

Leapin’ lizards! America’s most beloved musical Annie, Jr. will once again be presented at the Historic STAR Theatre in downtown Oceanside, giving a whole new generation the chance to experience this classical musical about never giving up hope. Boasting one of Broadway’s most memorable scores, including It’s a Hard Knock Life, Easy Street, Never Fully Dressed without a Smile, and the ever-optimistic Tomorrow, Annie is a delightful theatrical experience for the entire family!

Saturday/Sunday, December 12th and 13th:

A Very Merry Holiday Show at Brooks Theatre

Oceanside Theatre Company Youth Academy presents “A Very Merry Holiday” show on December 12th and 13th, at The Brooks Theatre in Oceanside. It is a holiday showcase put out by theater students ages 5 to 15 with heartwarming selections from holiday-themed musical theater, plays, dance, traditional and standard favorites, fun for the whole family.

Saturday, December 12th:

Oceanside Parade of Lights

Fishing boats, sail boats, yachts, kayaks and dingys dressed up in holiday swag and circle the Oceanside Harbor to enchant onlookers at the harbor, restaurants and beach. Many of the boats feature people dressed up like Santa waving to the crowd. One of the best viewing spots is along the side of the Oceanside Harbor near the fishing dock and police station.

Sunday, December 13th:

Recycle Me! Holiday Workshop – Creations from Recycled Objects

Recycle Me! Art classes are fun and creative. Kids use a variety of art media as well as everyday items reused and recycled into fabulous art they can take home and enjoy!

Wednesday, December 16th:

Kids: Paws to Read

Read and share books with a Love on a Leash therapy dog and get a free bookmark. For children in kindergarten through sixth grade.

Thursday, December 17th:

Creative Kids! Snowmen

December will be about Snowmen! Parents can explore OMA’s current exhibitions while the little ones visit Studio O and get creative. Stories, music and other activities get kids ready to engage in creating their own masterpiece to take home!
